"Allen McNeal, financial advisor for UBS Financial Services warns against 'salesmen' in the industry who may skip over the planning process. 'There are people who will just sell you—find [an advisor] who is focused on the big picture,' McNeal said."
I agree with this advice. You really need professional planners that will help you "plan," not just sell you something. Believe it or not, I think the same advice applies to estate planning attorneys. There are attorneys who do estate planning as part of their practice, and then there are estate planning attorneys who focuse their practice on estate planning (e.g., estate tax planning, wills, trusts, business succession planning, asset protection, probate and estate administration, etc.). Hiring a good estate planning attorney, in my opinion, is insuring that your heirs will have the best experience possible administering your estate.
There are a number of quality Salt Lake City estate planning attorneys and ogden estate planning attorneys. I try to be considered one of them by offering quality services to clients and by listening to clients' concerns. Its true, quality estate planning does not mean the cheapest estate planning, but it means you get a custom estate plan designed to your needs and objectives.
As you shop our professional advisors (accountants, financial advisors, insurance professionals, and attorneys), make sure you feel comfortable that you have hired a quality advisor that will listen to you and help you "plan," not just sell you a product and run. Of course, I hope you will consider my office if you need an estate planning attorney in the Salt Lake and Ogden Utah areas (if you are interested, we offer free consultations--you can call the office or get started online).
